Working at a B Corp Company

Certified B Corporations® (B Corps) are for-profit companies that use the power of business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. They meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, and are certified by the nonprofit B Lab. The B Impact Assessment is the standard for Certification, and the BIA includes an entire section about Workers. With rigorous questions in this section reflecting best practices for social impact businesses around employee ownership, pay, transparency, inclusion, healthcare, benefits, time off, and more, it’s no wonder that more and more job seekers are looking to work at a Certified B Corporation. According to B Lab:

  • Across the whole Oregon & SW Washington region, there are 160+ B Corp headquarters

  • Oregon’s first congressional district (OR-1) has 80+ Certified B Corps, most in the U.S.

  • More than 75% of B Corps are companies with fewer than 50 employees

  • Only 25% of people surveyed globally had heard of B Corp certification

  • In a U.S. survey, 85% of those aware of B Corp certification report that it is influencing their purchasing decisions

  • The average B Impact Assessment score for a B Corp is 96.5. The average score for a traditional business is 57.3.

  • Compared to ordinary businesses, B Corps are:

    • 2x more likely to be carbon neutral

    • 2.9x more likely to publish impact reports

    • 3.3x more likely to explicitly put social and environmental performance into managers’ job descriptions

    • 1.7x more likely to perform a pay equity analysis and, if necessary, implement equal compensation plans or policies
